SEAHUNNY

Small batch. Saltwater soul.

The Salt Journal

The woman behind your tin

Hi, I’m Andie Kat.
The SEAHUNNY.

Kat is short for Katherine, the middle name I share with my nana. A few dear friends called me Kat, and the name stayed. It still feels like a little piece of the people who have loved me.

A mama, a maker, and a country coastal girl who started asking what really belonged on our skin. Seven plant butters and oils later, here we are. Come on in.

A coast girl at heart

This coast stays with you.

Some places become part of you. For me, it’s the coast from the cliffs of Big Sur all the way through Pismo Beach. Cambria, Moonstone, San Simeon, and all that beautiful water between. Our family managed the Sands Motel on Hearst Drive, with salt on the windows and tide pools down the road. I can live somewhere else, but that whole stretch of coast still knows my name.

Early SEAHUNNY home studio

2012 / The first batch

I wanted better.
So I made it.

In 2012, my kitchen became a little butter-making laboratory, with a stand mixer and my boys underfoot. I wanted to know what touched our skin. Coconut oil opened the door; plant butters kept me curious. I mixed, asked questions, and kept going until the tin felt like something I could call my own.

Out of the kitchen

Then other people
got Blissed-Out.

Then my little kitchen creation found its people. An expo table, a conversation, someone opening a tin for the first time. SEAHUNNY grew, but I kept the part I love most: making Blissed-Out in small batches, with my own hands and my name on every one.

The foundation

Made from what He made.

God is at the heart of this home and this little company. The plants, the people, the chance to make something with my hands: I see His goodness in all of it. “Made from what He made” is how I give thanks.

The coast that made me

Cayucos summers.
Big Sur perspective.

Cayucos is where I spent summers with my best friends. I could swing on that beach forever. It’s where I fell in love with reggae, too. Put a little of it on the radio and I’m halfway there.

Big Sur makes me want to fly. Those cliffs, that endless stretch of blue. The view tempts me toward the edge, and it’s hard to hold myself back. My worries feel so small there, and His brilliance feels so mighty. I love Big Sur for that feeling.

Cambria raised this Coast Union girl. Go Broncos. And a little love for our Cal Poly Mustangs, too.

A few good stops along the way

my God. my family. my everything.

My SEAHUBBY.
Our whole beautiful crew.

Gregory is my SEAHUBBY. My love, my fellow dreamer, and the man beside me in the life we’re building and the work we create at Slightly Obsessed Studios. I would choose him all over again. On the easy days, on the days that ask more of us, and in every ordinary moment between, my heart is still his.

Our story began in January 2012. On February 10, 2024, we eloped to the Central Coast, to the beach I grew up on. Gregory, me, and Piper as our only witness, other than God. A cove at the end of Hearst Beach, the ocean beside us, and the adventure of saying yes. Fifteen years together in January 2027, and I’d still say yes.

Reminders of whose we are

Worship. Water.
Washed.

Faith is not a decorative line in our story. It is the reason we built our marriage, family, and work around Him. In worship and water, on ordinary days and hard ones, we return to the same reminder: we are His, and He keeps us.

The babies still living at home

Piper & Thaddeus.
Our live-in babies now.

Our children are grown and building lives of their own. Piper and Thaddeus are the babies still underfoot, the watchful little boss and Thaddy the Baddie, bringing bulldog opinions, comedy, and a whole lot of life into this house.

They are not accessories to our story. They are family. They keep the rooms full, the routines interesting, and our hearts very much occupied.

The softest kind of ordinary day.

A whole new stage

The nest changed.
So did I.

I am in my fifties. My babies have flown the nest. Some of the people who made the world feel like home are gone. And, if I’m being honest, there are days I feel a little lost. Who am I in this chapter? What do I love to do? What feels like me now?

I keep coming back to this: I want beautiful, wise, caring women around me. Women to laugh with, learn from, lean on, and love right back. Maybe you’ve been looking for them, too.

Enter… HER Collective.

For HER. And HER.
And HER. And HER.

The woman beginning again. The woman finding her voice. The woman who seems to have it together, and the one who could use someone in her corner. However this chapter finds you, there is room for you here.

Coming soon

A little crown.
A quiet promise.

The crown will become a pin you can wear and a part of the merch you can make your own. A little something with a whole lot of meaning:

“I’m in HER corner.
I have HER back.”

Wear it for her. Wear it for yourself, too.

My SEAHUBBY, on the shore where we said yes.

February 10, 2024 / We eloped to the sands of home

Run away with us.

The storm left us
a shore of our own.

We took our vows on the Central Coast, on a familiar shore where I spent so many high-school days. God above us, Piper beside us, and the two of us choosing forever. A giant storm had swept through the night before, pulling out trees and carving the beach farther back than I had ever known it. The shore was familiar, but the cove was brand new. Untouched again. No footprints yet. We were the first ones there.

We gathered sticks and stones into a circle and said prayers over the people we love. We wanted our mamas honored in that moment, too. A little water from the shore, a little sand, and so much love for the women who helped make us who we are. We kept those little jars. They’re a piece of our wedding day, and a place for our moms in the life we chose together.

A little of that shore.
A place for our moms. Always.

Water, sand, and two very loved mamas.
Our circle, with prayers for the people we love.
The shore, just as the storm left it.

One more place. The same promise.

Moonstone was always part of it.

Moonstone Beach Drive was always going to be part of our day. It holds a special meaning all its own. The rings? We forgot them at the beach. When we returned to Moonstone, we exchanged them there, just the two of us, with the same promise. My first job was at the Moonraker on that very drive, when I was fourteen. So much of my life along one little road. Now our marriage has a place there, too.

A table for us.
A toast to forever.

After the beach, we celebrated at Madeline’s on Main Street, in the town where I grew up. Dinner on that lovely patio, champagne, crème brûlée, and cake. My SEAHUBBY across the table. A day I’ll always want to remember.

Even the slippers said yes.

The little things that feel like us

Good coffee.
A very good hat.

Very much my SEAHUBBY

You know the hat.

If you know Gregory, you know these hats. They’re part of his everyday look, and I love them on him. Found one you fancy? Ask us, and we’ll point you his way.

The unconventional Brady Bunch

Six beautiful babies.
One very full heart.

Our unconventional Brady Bunch. Six beautiful babies, six completely different souls, and a love for each one that has grown into its own kind of forever. However life brought us together, they’re all mine to love.

Azalea Court / a family chapter

One chapter.
So many versions of us.

Three are mine. Three are mine by serendipity. Not one tidy beginning, but one beautifully unconventional Brady Bunch, and six people Gregory and I will always have room to love.

Victoria

Our oldest. An adventurous heart.

Victoria has an adventurous heart, a love of music and travel, and a strength we admire. Watching her grow as a person, and seeing the way she perseveres, is such an honor and a pleasure. I’ve grown to love our conversations so much. I look forward to our talks, to hearing what’s on her heart, and to sharing a little more of life with her. The more I know her, the more I love having her in mine.

Kyoji

Quietly creative. Impossible not to smile with.

Kyoji has a wonderfully funny side, a deeply creative mind, and a love of music that is part of who he is. There is a sweetness to him that shows itself in its own time. He may be quiet when he first meets someone, but that smile changes the room. We love the original way he sees the world and the warmth he brings to ours.

Jason

My first. My intense, thoughtful soul.

Jason is my firstborn and my intense soul. Thoughtful, kind, and deeply felt. Becoming his mama gave me something to live for and showed me what love could be. We grew together in ways I will always treasure. He brought that same heart and determination to the wrestling mat, becoming a champion. We are proud of his strength, his service, and the man behind both.

Noah

Strength in his stride. His mama in his heart.

Noah has always had a way of giving his whole heart to things. A top competitor with the focus and athletic ability to match, and still a mama’s boy through and through. I love that about him. All that strength, and such a tender place for his people. We are proud of the man he is, and I still catch more of myself in his face every year. He has so much of my heart.

Kameron

A fighter. A connection words barely hold.

Kameron has faced so much and kept finding his feet. His perseverance leaves us in awe. He brings that same focus and determination to the things he loves, including the sports he grew up playing. There is a special ache and a place in my heart that belongs to him, a connection I can feel more easily than I can explain. Our souls seem to know how to find each other. We look forward to seeing what that remarkable spirit makes of life.

Julian

Fearless. Independent. Building his own way.

Julian is independent, fearless, and willing to work for what he wants. We admire his determination and the way he is building his future. We want to see how far he can go, and we look forward to more time together as his life keeps unfolding.

Wherever life takes our babies

The porch light
is always on.

They’re growing, working, and making lives of their own. Wherever those lives take them and their families, we send our love and our prayers. We look forward to the visits, the stories, and the time we’ll share. There will always be open arms and a place here with us.

A proud U.S. Marine family

Two Marines.
One proud family.

Gregory, my SEAHUBBY, is a Marine veteran. My firstborn, Jason, is a Marine, too. We are a U.S. Marine family, and I’m proud of both of these men. Their service is part of our family’s story and part of why supporting military families matters so much to us.

And my SEAHUBBY in his dress uniform? Be still, my heart. There is something about the man, the bearing, and the life we’ve chosen together that gets me every time.

Oohrah, Devil Dogs. We love you.

My mama. My TIDEGYPSY.

Karen Marie Lawrence / My mama

Tribute to
TIDEGYPSY.

Steady as the sun. A little bit of a diva. A whole lot of love.

My mama was Karen. Mama. Nana. A wildflower. If you knew her, you knew that smile, the hug, and the kiss on your face that usually came with it. She loved people deeply, and she stood in my corner for as long as I can remember.

Piedras Blancas was where she went to think when our family managed the Sands Motel on Hearst Drive in San Simeon. The waves, the lighthouse, the pier: that coast belongs to her story. A part of her will return there, where she was happy.

“My mama loved music.
And during her illness she would talk a lot about wanting to dance again.”

So this is how I want to honor her: play the music. Use the good china. Walk near the water. Find the joy. I know she is with Jesus, and I know Mama would want us dancing.

Piedras Blancas. The place my mama went to sit with the sea.

Little things I carry

Hearts in my hand.
Her in everything.

During my mama’s stay at UCSF in San Francisco, I found these heart-shaped shells and stones at the beach. Little hearts in my hand, a little love to carry back. I still love finding them. Some of the things that mean the most fit right in your palm.

The hearts I found while my mama was at UCSF.

San Simeon pier. So much of our family’s coast.

All the way to the end

Her walk.
Our old fishing spot.

My mama loved walking to the end of the San Simeon pier. My brothers and I used to shark fish from it. One pier, so many versions of our family life. I love that the same stretch of water holds all of those memories.

All the way to the end. Her favorite walk, our old fishing spot.
