A good beach tip goes a long way

Good finds.
Public access.

Lesser-known shores are public places worth a detour. Some came from community tips and Reddit conversations; the park and venue links help you check access before you go.

364 public places to start: 303 in California and 61 farther afield, including 42 lighthouses. Help us find the next good shore. Every new tip needs a source and a human review before it becomes a pin. TikTok-only tips haven’t been verified for this map.

Sources reviewed September 30–October 4, 2026. Follow each card’s official link for current closures, show times, water quality, parking, and fees. Map pins show approximate public access areas.

Tides aren’t a surf forecast or a safety clearance. Predictions are for a nearby NOAA station, not the exact beach. Look for a daylight low tide, check swell and weather, and leave well before the water cuts off your route. Never turn your back on the sea.

A good shore deserves a good tip

Found somewhere
we should know?

Share a beautiful public beach, a tide-pool detour, a coastal hike, a wildlife lookout, a dog-friendly stretch, or a real mermaid performance. Tell us what makes it worth a visit.

Bring an official park, city, or venue link that explains access. We review suggestions before adding them, and leave fragile habitats and private places off the map.

Create your suggestion here, then send it from your email app. Each new place is reviewed before it appears in the Atlas.
