Water-worn stones. A coast that keeps your attention.

Know before you go

A little care.
A better day out.

Public access

Use the Moonstone Beach boardwalk and signed beach stairs. The boardwalk follows roughly a mile of coastal bluff. Ask park staff about collecting rules for the exact beach section before taking a stone.

Keep the coast wild

Enjoy the colors and textures of water-worn stones without assuming they are gemstone moonstone. Photograph finds and check location-specific collection rules. Never turn your back on the surf.

With your dog

Leashed dogs on the Moonstone Beach boardwalk; this permission does not extend to every adjoining beach.

A family day

A boardwalk outing and ocean views. Beach stairs, bluff edges and rough surf need close supervision.

Shells along this shore

Shell fragments and water-worn stones can share the strand line. The beach’s name is not a promise of gem-quality moonstone.

Look along the strand line as the tide recedes, when access is safe. High-water marks can hold empty shells too; finds are never guaranteed.

Ask the land manager about current shell-removal rules. An empty shell is not automatically permitted to take.
