Polarbear Spit.

Polarbear Spit was our name for a cooling rub. This version starts with a published butter-and-oil method, with a peppermint note and a little slip for massaging tired-feeling shoulders or legs.

One small jar; final volume varies

Let’s make it

One thing at a time

Here’s how.

  1. Read the oil labels and the full source recipe first. Set out clean, completely dry tools. This version is for adults.
  2. Melt the coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax gently in a double boiler. Keep water out of the mixture.
  3. Remove from the heat. When the mixture has cooled enough to stir comfortably, stir in the essential oils. Do not add extra drops.
  4. Put into a clean, dry jar. Let set, close, label the ingredients and date, and keep cool and out of sunlight.
  5. Try a tiny amount on intact skin first. If comfortable, massage a little over shoulders or legs and wash your hands afterward.

A little more than the ingredients

Why it belongs in the house.

The oils and butter help your hands glide while you massage. Peppermint’s menthol gives a cooling sensation. That sensory comfort is the purpose of this rub; it does not prove a muscle injury has healed.

A homemade blend lets you see the ingredients and choose whether fragrance suits you. Essential oils remain concentrated ingredients, even when they come from plants. Dilution and careful handling belong in the recipe.
