Inside your tin

Coconut Oil

A little of my roots, in your ritual.

A coconut grows on a palm, and its white flesh is the starting point for coconut oil. This is the ingredient that got my kitchen experiments going, and the one with a particularly personal place in my heart.

Why it belongs in the blend

A little more
to love.

Coconut oil softens and lubricates skin, adding slip to the richer butters. It is naturally rich in lauric-acid-containing fats. Like the rest of our blend, it helps leave skin feeling conditioned.

For your skin

A little ganache after bathing feels lovely on still-damp skin. Start with a small amount and let the oils help hold onto that comfortable, just-bathed feeling.

Hair, curls & beard

Coconut oil’s lauric-acid-rich structure is part of what makes its hair research interesting. A hair-fiber study found that coconut oil reduced protein loss when used before or after washing, compared with the other oils tested. For your own ritual, try a light coating on the lengths before shampooing, or a trace on dry ends.

Beyond the ingredient

A little of my Filipino roots

I’m half Filipino, so this ingredient has a place in my heart as well as my tin. Our coconut oil is made in the Philippines using a traditional small-batch process: fresh coconut flesh is wet-milled into milk, the oil is separated with heat, then carefully filtered. It’s a way of making oil rooted in knowledge passed through generations.

Virgin coconut oil has also been studied on skin. In one clinical trial, researchers measured improvements in hydration and water loss with topical virgin coconut oil. Those results belong to the oil and the study conditions, not to an untested blend. Follow the paper, look at who was studied, and decide what fits your own skin.
